India had already secured their spot in the final of the World Test Championship, which was held in June 2021. India finished at the top of the points table with 520 points, winning 12 out of 17 matches they played. The other team to qualify for the final was New Zealand, who finished second with 420 points.
The final was originally scheduled to be held at Lord's Cricket Ground in London, England, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was moved to The Ageas Bowl in Southampton, England. The match was played from June 18-22, 2021 and was contested by India and New Zealand. New Zealand emerged victorious, winning the match by 8 wickets and becoming the inaugural champions of the World Test Championship.
